Suture - Violet Polysyn

Hands-On Suturing Supplies

5 packs - $20

This course provides 1.50 credits of prescribed CME, and is also provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing for 1.5 contact hours.

This 1.5 hour CE/CME course is a condensed version of our full IPE course, Transfer Tools for Midwives, EMS, and Receiving Providers. This version is designed specifically for those providing in-hospital care.

Transfers from home births and birth centers to hospitals happen regularly and are an important part of safe care for birthing people and babies. We know that approximately 10% of planned community births (homebirth and birth center births) transfer to the hospital when pain medication or labor augmentation is needed, or when complications arise.

Yet midwives, emergency services personnel, nurses, and receiving hospital providers don't receive training on how to work together as a care team. We often find ourselves trying to provide care in stressful emergency situations without the information or skills we need to do so effectively.

We're ready to change that and work together to improve care! This one-of-a-kind course:

  • is a curriculum designed by midwives, emergency services personnel, nurses, and receiving hospital providers
  • shares new collaborative methods for improving home birth and birth center to hospital transfers
  • teaches communication skills critical to keep calm and clear during stressful situations
  • includes clinical best practices
  • models scenarios demonstrating these best practices for communication and care
  • teaches creative tools for bridging relationships with other provider types
  • includes everything you need to know about the other providers involved to support optimal care and smooth transfer across all settings of a community birth transfer

This course will help all provider types work together smoothly so we can improve outcomes and the experience of care for mothers and babies.

Keeper Kit

Hands-On Suturing Supplies

One of the ways that Hands-On Suturing is different from other online suturing courses is our loaner supply kits, which are sent out a couple weeks prior to the small group session date. All costs for these loaner kits are included in the course price - we even send a pre-paid return label to send it back with.

And none of that is going to change.

But we are also adding a new option: A Keeper Kit that is sent out upon ordering, so you can start practicing sooner, and that doesn't need to be returned, so you can keep it for ongoing practice. The instruments in the Keeper Kit are intended for you to practice with while leaving your professional instruments sterilized and ready-for-a-birth.

But if you don't yet have professional instruments, everything in this kit is autoclavable, entry-level professional quality, so yes, you can also use them on clients as well. While we do recommend that you upgrade to a higher quality needle holder down the road, you may want to use the Russian forceps in your professional set forever...they come marked with the centimeters, as Holly recommends!

Our right-handed kits contain:
  • König Mayo Hegar 6.25" needle holder

  • Blunt/blunt scissors

  • Straight Kelly hemostat

  • Russian tissue forceps - marked with centimeters!

  • Foam block with 3 "lacerations," plus space to cut more of your own

  • Five packs of expired 3-0 CT-1/GS-21 Vicryl and/or Polysorb (depending on availability)

  • Clear ruler

When sent in lieu of a Loaner Kit, we will include the clamp stand at no additional charge, so nothing will need returned!

“This was such a helpful course! I just signed up with a billing service and needed to set my fees but had no real idea how and now I not only have a list of fees but a solid understanding of how each one came about. Thank you for including the additional resources and making this so easy to understand! This was the first billing course I've ever attended that was easy to follow :)”
