Licensed as a midwife and a marriage and family therapist, Tamara has been working in maternal, infant and child health for the last fifteen years. Tamara has a deep interest in the sustainability of the midwifery profession and politics as they relate to birth. As a therapist her clinical interests focus on exploring mental health issues that are pervasive during the childbearing year particularly the experience of postpartum depression, post traumatic stress related to birth and perinatal bereavement. Tamara is the owner of The Gathering Place, a childbirth education and breastfeeding resource center and Magnolia Birth House, a birthing center, both located in Miami, FL. Since January 2018, she has served as the director of student life, equity and access at MCU.

Kristi-Ridd Young, BS, ICCE

Kristi Ridd-Young has been the president of Midwives College of Utah for the past 13 years. MCU is the largest MEAC-accredited, distance-education midwifery school offering Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Midwifery degrees. Kristi is the former president of the Midwifery Education Accreditation Council and currently serves as Vice-President of Outreach. She has been a member of US MERA’s Steering Committee for the last seven years. As an active midwifery educator and doula trainer, she continues to influence the education of and networking opportunities for birth workers both in the US and internationally. Though she has been mentored by many leaders in maternal and child health, Kristi credits her six children, seven step-children and 15 grandchildren for the real-life lessons that influence her philosophy that everyone deserves access to education and the freedom of choice based on an understanding of all available alternatives.
